Plastic bottles used for water, beverage and food products are manufactured from materials which are tested and reviewed by the Food and Drug Administration before they are filled and being allowed on the market. Though, today we get to listen to all kinds of rumors floating around us related to plastic bottle health hazard. Due to this, many companies all over the world have come up with the right equipment for bottle testing prior to be used as food packing item in order to ensure safety for their containers. They guarantee that their containers would perform as expected and remain undamaged during storage and transportation. As a regular course of maintenance, the companies undertake painstaking tests according to internal, customer and industry standard. Their pursuit for better technology helps them to find a better solution.
Most beverage plastic bottles sold in the market are made from Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET). This material has become the choice of all for beverage bottles because it is shatter resistant, lightweight and provides air and moisture barriers. PET has regularly been tested for safety and plastic bottles made with PET are widely used to package everything from mineral water and fruit juice to beverage and even beer. Since plastic bottles are directly related to food items, so there are often required the need for a testing program to be developed or to carry out additional testing for existing standards.
Moreover, the FDA in association with companies those provide comprehensive solutions for all research, quality, and service-life testing requirements has determined that PET meets standards for food contact materials and therefore permits the use of PET in food and beverage packaging for both single and repeated use.
You might be wondering how these PET bottles are made! Well, there are two primary methods for manufacturing PET products- preforms and blow molding machines. The previous techniques can be undertaken in just a single step or in two phases. The simple method allows the manufacture of such bottles in a succession of one uninterrupted series on a single machine.
Presently there are several well-known brands out there offering a range of PET bottle testing instruments, preform testing instruments and packaging testing instruments. Their exclusive range of testing instruments is not only technologically advanced and comprehensible, but also provides a good value for money in terms of features and working benefits. Such a company will be uniquely placed to help customers get better and smarter products.
Summary:
Most beverage plastic bottles sold in the market are made from Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET). However, this material has regularly been tested for safety by companies who provide a range of PET bottle testing instruments, preform testing instruments and packaging testing instruments.
PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) plastic is a thermoplastic polymer resin of the polyester family. This is a strong but lightweight form of clear polyester which is used to make containers for soft drinks, alcoholic drinks, juices, water, edible oils, household cleaners, and other food and non-food applications. PET is now globally accepted as the material of choice for beverage bottle manufacturers because of its strength, transparency and thermo-stability. It has outshined other materials such as glass, PVC, and aluminum. Consumers like this material because it is recyclable, inexpensive, re-sealable, lightweight and resistant to shattering. Apart from these, it is inexpensive to produce and offers durable performance. As a matter of fact, bottles made from other materials either goes to the landfill or have to undertake expensive recycling processes.
Advantages of PET Bottles over Other Materials-
Ever since the PET plastic bottles were first introduced, it has only attained immense popularity in the market and till today it is recorded the best selling product for food and beverage packaging industries. With the rise of the packaged mineral water industry the PET bottles have become the most preferred container for single serve bottled water. Due to the fact that it is strong, transparent plastic that is safe and easy to store, PET plastic adheres to be the best material to be used as water or beverage container. However, contrary to some rumors floating around, these bottles can be refilled and re-used without concerning for health hazards.
One of the major advantages of the material lies in its physical properties that allow for great choice in design. It contains an inert plastic that stops leaching harmful materials into its contents- either when any food product is stored sealed, or when bottles are refilled or frozen. However, a note of caution is that opened bottles can cultivate bacteria. Fortunately, Polyethylene Terephthalate bottles are less probable to cultivate bacteria than any other packaging items and can be re-used on the condition that they are clinically tested, properly cleaned and sterilized.
Environmental Impact-
Although the ingredients for PET manufacture are oil-based, the overall environmental impact is less harmful than glass, aluminum and other container materials. The exceptional capacity-to-weight ratio of PET materials is a key to its energy efficiency, containing more products in less packaging and therefore consuming less fuel for transport. Moreover, these bottles are refillable and have all the environmental benefits embedded in the material combined with benefits coming up from the container being reused up to 20- 25 times in its lifetime, prior to being recycled.
Summary:
PET bottle has outshined other materials such as glass, PVC, and aluminum because it rings along with numerous benefits such as- it is recyclable, inexpensive, re-sealable, lightweight and resistant to shattering. Moreover, these bottles are eco-friendly and can be used over repeated times.
PET food packaging is a popular choice for businesses as well as displaying food for sale. They are manufactured in a special way that meets the specification and various needs of the large variety of food products manufacturers and retailers. Moreover, PET packaging is universally recognized as they meet U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requirements for plastics used in food and beverage packaging.
Before you begin with you must know that PET containers help food manufacturers and retailers properly match the type of plastic used in packaging to various types of food. The container made from this material (Polyethylene Terephthalate) provides a great barrier for food products against moisture and gases. Moreover, the plastic is clear and is not tinted, allowing for maximum protection from dust, dirt and other harmful things. Also it provides a good view of the food items inside the container that are meant to be displayed and sold. The clear material always maintains a clean feel, and gives hygienic product to customers. The plastic barrier keeps the food the way it was intended- edible and appealing.
Food containers made from this material come in a huge variety of shapes, sizes and fluid capacities. Thus it is easy to find the right container for almost every food and beverage product. However, PET containers are also easily tailored, so individual requirements, choice or specifications can be met at an affordable price.
The important aspect of Polyethylene Terephthalate containers is that although the containers are very lightweight, yet it is one of the most durable options in food containers. The containers don’t break easily and they don’t shatter if they are broken. The manufacturing process, special chemicals used and the unique properties of PET also result in food containers that don’t leach. These are particularly very essential with many food products as consumers only want food products that are safe to consume.
Food and drinks looks great in crystal clear PET container, and this is widely recognized as recyclable today. This means when you choose such plastic containers as packaging, it is very likely to be recycled.
These are all about the impressive benefits of PET food containers; it is clear that why they are a choice of the manufacturers for packaging food products. So, if you want a very convenient, durable, cost-effective and eco-friendly packaging option for your food items, choose only quality PET plastic manufacturer for your food grade plastic container needs.

With all of the rumors swirling around certain types of plastic recently, regular old plastic water bottles have been keeping up a reputation as safe, so far as human health is concerned. New evidence, however, recommends that plastic water bottles may not be so compassionate after all.
Researches and scientists in Germany have found that PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) plastics- the material used to make water bottles, among many other common products may also harbor certain chemicals that leach into the water. However, scientists also believe that it is too early to declare whether drinking out of PET water bottles is detrimental to human health. But it now appears possible that some unidentified chemicals present in these plastics have the potential to interfere with estrogen and other reproductive hormones, just as the harmful agent like, plasticizers BPA and phthalates do.
What consumer demands- water bottles have to be made of clear plastic, and this is another great problem in this regard. Since PET is a recyclable material, it usually includes small amounts of dyes from their previous cycle. This means that in order to make a clear plastic water bottle, you have to start with fresh material. Processed plastic through recycling to an acceptable level is too expensive. So every PET water bottle you grab includes a good amount of oil extracted from the ground.
While the fact that PET keeps the bottle looking good and clear doesn’t make sense that it is 100% safe. Plastics contain other chemicals used to change their properties in order to keeping them resistant to collapse from light or changing the rigidity. For PET water bottles, chemicals leach into the water resulting in causing health problems. Other contaminants may come forth as a result of the high temperatures used to mold and shape the bottles.
It is not to scare the consumer drinking water from PET bottles! Scientists are experimenting regularly to ensure the safety of using such bottles and have arrived at the conclusion that polycarbonate water bottles, marked by the #7 symbol, are the great options to choose it for re-useable 5 gallon and 3 gallon water bottles.
Overcoming all such rumors and bad reports, PET plastic is now a new option for 5 gallon bottles in the bottled water marketplace. Bottle manufacturing companies are now undertaking various tests to ensure that the material they use for food and packaging is free from health-problem issues.
PET Water Bottles
Summary:
Scientists have research on the plastic water bottles and have come up with the conclusion that PET water bottles are poisoning you. The material used for making such bottles harbor certain chemicals that leach into the water and cause serious health hazards. However, further researches have proved that PET is free from such issues and are absolutely safe.
The plastic bottle is gradually emerging as singled out alternative packaging material for beer. Concerts, sports events, picnics and outings are where plastic beer bottles have enjoyed their widespread success due to issues of public safety. Being lightweight plastic, it has the advantage over glass or metal containers as plastic containers prevent injury if thrown or dropped. Additionally, bottle manufacturers say the qualities and performance gap between plastic and glass is lessening over the time. Thanks to improved materials that provide a better solution and good barrier against oxygen and carbon dioxide.
What has come up as the world’s leading commercial single-serve plastic beer bottle is PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate), a lightweight, unbreakable and recyclable material used in bottle manufacturing companies. These bottles can be easily recycled and their usage will reduce the amount of waste adding to landfills. Today, most breweries are committed to getting only PET bottles for beverages and beers. They are continuously evaluating the existing technology, overall bottle cost, performance and long-term issues concerning color, recyclability, and taste.
As with all packaging, the PET container delivers its contents to the consumer in a comprehensible way, while keeping up the freshness and distinguishing uniqueness of the product. Finally, the overall performance of the filled container is evaluated on the basis of the taste, color and quality after a certain period of time, and also the shelf life of the product (the point at which products becomes unacceptable) are considered.
When it comes to storage and transportation, a plastic beer bottle is more convenient to store and to move along with it. Since it is lighter in weight, and less likely to shatter, you can easily store them just about anywhere you can find space. Most people have space problem and limited storage they struggle for enough room to store anything, especially something as fragile and brittle as glass. However, the PET bottles will evade such problems and them the ease-of-storage even at crammed space. And also it is easy to carry, so it would be valuable to be in settings where the glass bottles are more likely to break, such as picnic, beach, parks, transporting etc.
So, as you give up your job for now to loading up with a heap of glass beer bottles for your next venture to any party or picnic, you can feel relief that the travelling stuff will weigh less and your beer bottle will be safe till reaching your mouth.
Summary:
Plastic beer bottles have replaced the traditional glass bottles. The PET or Polyethylene Terephthalate bottles have numerous advantages over other materials that add to the growing popularity of this material.

Paper and Packaging Testing Instruments
After a visit to the testing labs at the Indian Institute of Packaging that we have written about in another article in this issue, we visited Presto Stantest, a Faridabad-based test equipment manufacturer which makes analytical instruments for the automotive, rubber and packaging industries.
Vishal Malhotra, director, Presto Stantest shared his experiences in the packaging industry and some of his ideas about the direction in which he feels the industry is headed. According to Malhotra, Packaging is an industry where quality hardly seemed to matter a few years ago. But this mindset is changing for the better, slowly.
Presto manufactures physical load testing equipments for paper and packaging material. The compression tester made by Presto is used to check the compression resistance and long-term stacking strength for corrugated boxes, bulk containers and pallets. It simulates the load package may experience due to disturbance during shipment. This equipment is available in three different models or sizes.
Another instrument is the bursting strength tester used to determine the quality, strength and performance of paper, paperboards, corrugated boards and boxes, solid fibre boards, filter cloth, industrial fabric, leather and other materials. Presto also makes crush testers, scuff resistance testers, grammage checking kits, computerised and digital tensile strength testing machines, Elmendorf type tear testers, dart impact testers, friction coefficient testers, digital peel/seal strength testers, laboratory heat sealers and melt flow indexers. Presto also makes colour matching cabinets with normal, UV and fluorescent lamps and has its own R&D department to check the quality of its products. The company follows British Indian and American standards for manufacturing and quality checking its products.
Malhotra says, “Small scale manufacturers in remote locations ofIndia, who used to ignore the quality issues earlier, are now keenly interested in purchasing and using testing equipment. One of our customers actually bugged us for many days to learn and understand how a peel/seal strength tester works. He was even willing to come down toFaridabadto learn. This was an overwhelming response but it does not happen too often. Compared to bigger manufacturers with demanding customers who demand quality assurance testing, the small town packaging manufacturers are adapting on the basis of their own self motivation.”
The packaging industry has not been enough of Presto to sustain and survive. “Only a nice segment of packaging industry I interested in buying test equipment and carrying out analysis without any mandatory requirements and enforcement. Since we are not dependent completely on the packaging segment, we are able to survive. The Indian Packaging industry has to evolve analytically so that it can position itself in the international market and sail smoothly,” Malhotra Concluded.
